Studies Abroad: China Summer
Curriculum:
This program is designed to give students insight into modern China by studying modern Chinese literature translated to English, as well as modern Chinese history and politics, while spending a summer in the capital city of Beijing. All instruction is in English.
NO CHINESE LANGUAGE IS REQUIRED.

May count as either ENG 112 or upper division English course.

Contemporary China
—Taught by American professor working on site in Beijing.
May count as upper or lower division history course, or upper or lower division political science course.
Cost:
The cost of the program is $4,800, and will include six credit hours, housing, some meals, excursions, and health insurance. Cost does not include airfare or food. Students live in apartments with kitchens and easy access to food stores.
Program Dates:
The program begins on June 18, 2013 and concludes on July 24, 2013. Participants should arrive before 6 pm on June 18 and depart before 10 am on July 24.
The Experience:
This program will allow students to experience life in modern China with classes held in Beijing and excursions to several areas of China. Excursions include the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, and overnight trips to the cities of Shanghai and Xi’an (home of the Terracotta Warriors).
Living Quarters:
Students will live in an IES Abroad student dormitory in Beijing. Public transportation will allow students to explore the historic sites of Beijing as well as the modern metropolis it has become.
