Studies Abroad: Granada Semester FAQ
Yes, students will work directly with their program coordinator to go about getting their visas.Visa applications can only be processed between 60-90 days of departure, but students should make sure to stay on top of this process and follow instructions for doing so.
Yes, students must have completed Spanish 301 and Spanish 302 before participating in the program. It is suggested to have even more because all of the classes are in Spanish and the student will be living with a Spanish family. Students are required to take Spanish while they are there, but it is integrated into their classes. Students going in the Spring semester must take a Spanish class the fall before their program starts. In Granada, both semesters have a 1-month intensive language and grammar course (Intensivo) before the start of regular classes.
$1,200 per month. This will vary from person to person, but if the student plans on traveling a lot and participating in several recreational activities, he or she will need to budget for these extra expenses.
Spanish and Global Business majors are required to study abroad. Preference is given to students with these majors, however, students of other majors can talk to their advisors and Fr. Wheeler to work the program into their academic schedule.
Students live in homestays with Spanish families. They are served three meals a day and are provided one load of laundry per week.
- Summer: Very warm, much more so than Portland. Skirts or lightweight pants are more common than shorts.
- Winter: Similar to Oregon, but less rain. Scarves and medium-weight coats are more common than ski-coats.
The Fall 2013 semester will begin at the end of August and conclude in the middle of December 2013. The Spring 2014 semester runs from the beginning of January to the end of May.
The Granada Fall 2013 costs $24,795 and Spring 2014 costs $25,695.
