The Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) has selected 87 higher education institutions or networks of institutions to participate in a program to improve undergraduate and graduate education. 

The CASTL Institutional Leadership Program is a three-year partnership between Carnegie and selected colleges, universities and higher education organizations with a strong commitment to the careful examination of teaching and learning.  Participants were selected for their ability to influence work in 12 areas.  The University of Portland is working on the theme, "Linking Affective and Cognitive Development", which is reflective of its Holy Cross Mission to educate both the heart and the mind.
