University Operations: Vice President
Jim Ravelli was appointed chief information officer in August 2008 and vice president in 2010 overseeing Human Resources, Academic Technology, Technical Services, Web and Administrative Services, Facilities Planning and Construction, Physical Plant, and Master Planning.
The Office of Human Resources, supervised by Ravelli, is responsible for benefits, salary administration, and personnel regulations and hiring. Ravelli also works as the chief strategist and visionary for comprehensive information technology (IT) planning and implementation. He directs the University's academic and administrative computer, voice and data communications personnel, and is primarily responsible for leading the wide variety of campus technology users toward an environment that achieves the University's goals. Jim oversees Facilities Planning and Construction which is responsible for planning, design, and construction at the University of Portland and capital improvement services to all departments within the University community. He also oversees the Physical Plant, which is responsible for the management of University facilities including asset reinvestment, annual stewardship, and providing customer service, and Master Planning which works with the neighborhood association for development of the neighborhood and the river campus.
Ravelli has served as vice president, service delivery for EasyStreet Online Services, based in Beaverton; senior director, global IT Operations (acting CIO) for VMware in Palo Alto, Calif.; CIO and director of IT Infrastructure for Brocade Communications in San Jose, Calif.; and founder and president of Archinetix, Incorporated, based in Portland. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from Arizona State University.
