Web & Administrative Systems: PilotsUP Orientation

This PilotsUP orientation site is intended for people who are new to the University of Portland's portal, PilotsUP. Please use the navigation to the left to search for specific topics. What is PilotsUP? PilotsUP is a secure web space for accessing the many online resources and information provided by the University, including the following:  checking your email and grades, finding University events and announcements, and conducting your daily tasks. You can customize your PilotsUP experience through personal pages, that serve your particular needs and interests.
How do I login to PilotsUP? You login to PilotsUP using your network username and password.

My password won't work. What's wrong? If you cannot log into Pilots UP, it is likely that your password has expired and needs to be reset.
How do I manage my network password?

Please visit the network password management tool for password help. From this site you can:

    * Update a known password (Use to update or reset a expired password)
    * Change a forgotten password
    * Change or update a security question
    * Check to see when you password will expire
    * View your Banner Pin

How do I change my password? Visit the password management site mentioned in the FAQ above and select the appropriate option. For instance, if your password has already expired, select "Reset Forgotten/Expired Password."
When does my password expire? Account passwords expire every 143 days. If your password has expired, contact the Help Desk at support@uphelp.zendesk.com.
How do I get around in PilotsUP?
To get around in PilotsUP, you use the Dockbar, the big purple bar at the top of the PilotsUP Screen.

The Dockbar features the following icons and drop-down menus:

Click on the pin to keep the Dockbar on the screen while you scroll.

The Quick Access menu gets you to frequently-used applications.

PilotsUP Umbrella Icon Resources

The Resources menu gets you to important University Resources.

The Pages menu takes you to your portal pages and community pages.

The Add menu lets you add apps and portlets to pages you own.

The Manage Menu gives you control over your portal pages and settings.

Click the Home link to go to your PilotsUP private home page.

PilotsUP Profile Icon  Your Profile

Click your name to edit your own profile.

PilotsUP Sign Out Icon  Sign Out

Make sure to click to logout of PilotsUP so that your account is always secure.
What can I find under the PilotsUP QuickAccess Menu? The QuickAccess Menu gets you to the stuff you'll use the most at UP:

The email link takes you to your UP student Gmail account.

How do I find a campus map on PilotsUP? Select the "Resources" menu from the Dockbar and choose "Campus Map." 
The UP Campus Map is an interactive web application based on the GoogleMaps platform. You can use it to highlight and find different locations on campus.

Where do I find email addresses and phone numbers for people at UP?
The PilotsUP Directory page lets you find phone numbers and addresses for people on campus.

To get to the "Directory" page, click on the "Resources" menu on the Dockbar, then choose "Directory":

Enter a person's name or a search term in the "Internal Directory" application and click "Search."

Where do I find UP's social networking pages? Click on the Social Networking icon to visit the Social Networking page.

The Social Networking page in PilotsUP features links to the FaceBook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn pages available for UP, its departments, programs, clubs and organizations.

How do I get my own home page on PilotsUP? If you have a login to PilotsUP, you also have a home page, a page you can customize with mini-applications known as "portlets." There are three ways to get to your home page:
  1. Click on the "Home" button in the dock bar.

  2. Click on the "Home" icon in the QuickLinks portlet.

  3. Select the "Pages" menu in the dock bar and click on "My Private Pages"

What do you mean when you say that can I customize my home page? You can customize your home page in two ways:
1. You can change the look-and-feel of your home page using PilotsUP themes.
2. You can add mini-applications, called "portlets," to the page.


How do I change the look-and-feel of my home page? To change the look-and-feel of your page, complete the following steps:
  1. Login to PilotsUP
  2. Go to your Home Page by clicking on the home icon in the Dock Bar.
  3. Click on the Manage menu and select This Page.

  4. Choose Look and Feel

  5. Choose a theme that you like and click on it.

  6. Click on Return to Full Page

Your home page should now be set to the new theme you chose.
