Before joining UP, Claire Costin moved to Portland in 2016 and served as a visiting accounting professor at Portland State University. Claire is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she anticipates completion of her doctorate this year. She received her M.B.A. from St. Edward’s University in Austin and her B.M. in music performance from the University of Texas at Austin. With research interests centering around the incentives and consequences of earnings management, Claire is also working on research projects in the areas of international accounting, auditing, and accounting regulation. Prior to her doctoral program, Claire worked in practice as an auditor and remains a licensed C.P.A. in Texas. Her teaching interests are in the areas of financial accounting, auditing, and forensic accounting. In volunteer service, Claire serves on the Finance and Audit Committees of both the Alpha Phi Foundation and Alpha Phi Fraternity, International. She is the chapter advisor for the Alpha Phi chapter at the University of Oregon and was recently selected to facilitate the Alpha Phi Emerging Leadership Institute.Claire is a member of the Junior League of Portland and sits on the End Domestic Violence Committee. She is a dedicated practitioner and registered teacher of Ashtanga yoga. When she is not working on her dissertation, Claire spends her spare time walking, playing the guitar, and exploring the food and culture of her new hometown.
