Jonathan ElliottVisiting Assistant Professor of Biology

Before his appointment at University of Portland, Jonathan Elliott completed his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. at the University of Oregon and trained as a National Institutes of Health funded postdoctoral fellow at both the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, Minn.) and Oregon Health & Science University. While at the University of Oregon, he worked with Andrew Lovering, studying cardiopulmonary and respiratory physiology in humans. At the Mayo Clinic, he worked with Gary Sieck and studied respiratory muscle neurobiology in rodent models. Finally, at Oregon Health & Science University, he worked with, and continues to collaborate with, Miranda Lim studying sleep physiology in veterans following traumatic brain injury. To date, he has published 21 peer-reviewed manuscripts,and has received fellowship funding through the American Heart Association, American Lung Association, and National Institutes of Health. Jonathan’s record of service and leadership includes working on the American Physiological Society Trainee Advisory Board, and as the co-chair of the Oregon Health & Science University Postdoctoral Association. He is excited to strengthen his teaching portfolio and gain more experience as an educator at the University of Portland. Although born in Montana, he was raised in Eugene, Ore., and while not working or enjoying the outdoors, he can be found relaxing at home, exploring new places around Portland, or in the gym, where he trains in Olympic weightlifting.
