Rebecca Smith is excited to remain on The Bluff as an education instructor after working as a doctoral fellow in the School of Education for the past three years while earning her doctoral degree. She also attended University of Portland as an undergraduate (class of 2003), double majoring in secondary education and English, and received her master of education degree from the University of Illinois. Rebecca’s professional experience includes ten years of teaching experience in numerous settings, including high school English, middle school special education, and teaching the homeless population as a Jesuit Volunteer in Nashville, Tennessee. Rebecca also lived and worked in Latin America for several years, where she taught English at a Bolivian university while she studied Spanish. As a doctoral fellow, she collaborated with UP faculty members to perform district-driven research as part of the Multnomah County Partnership for Education Research. This research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at national and international conferences. Rebecca’s research interests include teacher education and professional learning and development. On the weekends, you might find Rebecca camping on Mt. Hood, reading in a hammock, or walking.
