Residence Life

The University of Portland’s operational resumption plans are subject to change as our understanding of COVID-19 evolves and based on guidelines set by the State of Oregon and Multnomah County. Please check this website often for the latest information.

The University of Portland will modify its on-campus residentiality experience to comply with directives from the Oregon Health Authority and other public health agencies.

Residence Hall Living

  • Residential density in on-campus residence halls is being reduced. While Oregon Health Authority guidance calls for students living together to have at least 64 square feet of space per resident, UP will use rooms that offer students an average of 99.5 square feet.
  • Residence hall common spaces will be reconfigured to maximize physical distancing.
  • Dedicated residential space will be reserved for any isolation or quarantine needs that may arise.
  • High-touch areas in residence halls, including restrooms, will be sanitized hourly during peak usage times. Extra cleaning supplies and training will be available for students’ further sanitization.

Residence Hall Move-In

  • To ensure physical distancing during the residence hall move-in process, all students will receive assigned move-in days and appointment times.
  • Students may bring up to two adult guests to help them move in.
  • Students should prepare for a streamlined move-in process by having all belongings and supplies ready to move in at the start of their designated appointment time.
  • To further support physical distancing during Move-In Week, limited evening appointments will be available earlier in August for students and families interested in dropping items off early.
  • Dining plans and residential access will begin on students’ designated move-in days/times.
  • Students and families are encouraged to review What to Bring and What Not to Bring upon returning to the University.
  • More information is forthcoming.
