Electrical Systems Engineer intern at Gulfstream Aerospace Company

April-Joy“I was drawn to this internship opportunity because I think aerospace is fascinating and the thought of working for Gulfstream, a business jet airplane company, was very appealing. My internship role within the electrical applications department involves helping with the wiring of different systems within the planes as well as certification. I have learned so much about the industry during my internship. As a student, you don’t often understand how the “real world” works until you get a job after you graduate. But through this internship, I am able to have a peek into what it would be like to work in a fast paced environment. I have also learned how to use new programs including a 2D drawing program and a 3D design program.

My favorite part of this internship has been working with the people in my department. Every single one of my coworkers has been more than willing to answer my questions and help me out. They have made me feel like I am a part of their team, not just someone who is there temporarily. Internships are so important because you gain life skills and work experience outside of the classroom. At Gulfstream, I work not only with electrical engineers, but also with mechanical and aerospace engineers, as well as those without engineering degrees. This has truly taught me how to collaborate in a working environment.

This internship has really confirmed my interest in aerospace. After graduation, I might consider getting a master’s degree in aerospace or working for another aerospace company.”
