Chelsea Kau ’20

Project Assistant and Online Journalist at STEMworks

Major: Marketing

Chelsea Kau“This particular internship focused on designing internship experiences for 31 high school and college students across Hawaii. I have learned how to use Constant Contact to send online newsletters to update businesses, mentors, STEM professionals, and government officials on the work our interns produced. I also learned how to design weekly webinars that focused on getting high school interns ready for college and a career. Overall, I learned how to build an internship experience by managing timesheets and memorandums of understanding, designing pamphlets, building welcome kits, and bridging the gap between companies and students.

Through my years of networking in high school, I built strong connections at the Maui Economic Development Board. They are the creators of STEMworks Hawaii, which has programs designed to empower the next generation of STEM professionals. I believe networking is a chance for students to build connections and open doors. After graduation, I plan on staying in Portland and applying to some firms around the city to pursue brand or social media marketing. One day I hope to go to grad school for human-centered design and return to Hawaii to serve my community.”
