Major: Marketing

Barlean’s Organic Oils started as a small family business and still is fairly small to this day - I found out about this internship opportunity because my dad works for the company. Barlean’s has never really had an internship program, so I am one of their first interns! My title is Marketing Intern, and my responsibilities include supporting social media community management, writing blog posts with SEO value, completing certifications in Google Ads and Google Analytics, and assisting with trade show planning. I also get to shadow different members of the marketing team and will complete a wrap-up report at the end of my internship.

I have learned a lot about how different marketing channels can impact sales and brand awareness. Barlean’s is also working on creating a more cohesive brand, and it’s amazing how little changes in packaging and labels can make such a difference when attracting consumers.

It has been so fun to work for a company that has great values and company culture. I really enjoy the team I work with in the marketing department, and I am grateful that I have been in-person for the entirety of my internship experience.

Internships are so important for undergrads because you really can’t learn everything in the classroom. There are so many skills you learn by working with different people to keep a company running. I also found it beneficial to experience what life will be like after UP so that I have another year to prepare myself. Overall, my internship has helped me to realize that I do want to pursue marketing for my career, and I am excited for what is to come after graduation.
