Pre-Commencement Graduate Recognition Event

In the afternoon of May 7 a Pre-Commencement Graduate Recognition Event will take place outdoors on campus in the main UP academic quad.

Graduates who choose to participate in the Pre-Commencement Graduate Recognition Event will wear their regalia, will gather in socially distanced manner, will have their name read aloud, and will walk across a stage to have their picture taken with President Father Mark Poorman and their respective Academic Dean.

The broad brushstrokes of the event are as follows:

  • This event is optional for members of the class of 2021.
  • Because of Multnomah County size-of-gathering restrictions, the event is for graduates only. Moreover, size-of-gathering restrictions will require us to host several sessions throughout the afternoon at which assigned students will gather to participate. Once we know how many students register to participate, we will contact you with the exact time at which to gather on campus.
  • The event will be live streamed so that friends and family can watch virtually.
  • Your commemorative photo, taken by a professional photographer, will be made available to you for download soon after the event at no cost.
  • The event will be designed to adhere to physical distancing and other current UP COVID guidelines; further, participants need to get tested on campus through Carbon Health between April 26 - May 5. If you're not currently enrolled in testing, you will have an opportunity to sign up to get tested after the RSVP for the event closes on April 16.
  • Additional safety details will be forthcoming to those who register to participate.
  • Following CDC guidance on travel, students currently residing outside of Oregon are discouraged to travel to Portland to participate.
