Fran Simmons is passionate about her love of caring for ill and injured children. She accomplishes this through her teaching of student nurses in the hospital setting for children, teaching students in a school setting for their clinical, and through performing direct nursing care in a pediatric day surgery unit. Fran received her MS in nursing at the University of Colorado in 1973 and came to the University of Portland School of Nursing immediately following graduation. She has been at UP since her graduation, teaching pediatrics in a variety of settings. Fran’s love in pediatrics is congenital heart, and she has published a chapter related to caring for these children in a home setting. In 2015 Fran received her Certificate of Pediatric Nursing.
