James Peña serves as the Hall Director of Schoenfeldt Hall, of which he was previously the Assistant Hall Director.  He is currently pursuing his Master of Arts in higher education and student affairs. A native of Kaua'i, Hawai'i, James has quickly grown to love Oregon. Prior to joining the University of Portland, he received his bachelor's degree in biology from George Fox University. During his undergraduate career, James served as a resident assistant for two years in both a freshman residence hall and an on-campus upperclassmen housing area. He then became the assistant area coordinator of that area. His experience in residence life has instilled in him a passion for faith and student development with a firm belief that it is done best in community. He is enthusiastic to continue working in this capacity, among the Scholars, Leaders, and Brothers of Schoenfeldt Hall.

Students say:

  • “James always makes an effort to say hi to everyone and has conversations with us and even invites us over to his room to hang out or watch movies. He's an awesome dude and creates a great community feeling here.”
  • “After going into his room for the first time and for the first time really hanging out with him I felt that I was always welcome there and that if I ever needed someone to talk to James would be there for me.”
