Information for Senior Families

We are so excited to see you on The Bluff this weekend! Please see below for important information for seniors and their families.

Parking

For parking during the weekend, you may use the main parking lot at UP, which can be accessed by entering the main entrance on Willamette Blvd and turning right at the Pilot House. You may also use any unmarked spots in the surrounding area.

Registration Packets

Your registration packet includes everything you need for the weekend, including name tags, a schedule, and tickets to various events. Packets are organized by the last name of your student, and one person from your family is able to pick up the packet for the entire group. Packets can be picked up at the following times and locations:

Friday, November 1

  • 3–6 p.m. - Headquarters, UP Bookstore
  • 8–10 p.m. - Welcome Dessert Social, Beauchamp Recreation & Wellness Center

Saturday, November 2

  • 8:30–10:30 a.m. - Headquarters, UP Bookstore
  • 11:45 a.m. - For those attending the President’s Luncheon, Beauchamp Recreation & Wellness Center
  • 3–6 p.m. - Headquarters, UP Bookstore

Please refer to the weekend schedule to see which meals are included in your weekend registration.

Soccer Tickets

Families who requested a soccer game ticket for Saturday evening will receive their soccer tickets in their registration packet. UP students will gain entry to the event with their Student ID card and do not need a separate ticket. All seats are general admission.

Security Measures

Please note that there are standard security measures in place for entering Merlo Field for the soccer game, including a metal detector test. Backpacks, duffel bags, or bags larger than 12" x 12" x 6" are prohibited. Please click here for more information and a list of prohibited items.

Senior Soiree

Saturday’s Senior Soiree begins at 8 p.m. on Saturday at The Nines Hotel in downtown Portland, located at 525 SW Morrison St, Portland, OR 97204. We encourage you to plan ahead for your transportation to The Nines. Once you arrive, please take the elevators directly up to the 6th floor, where the event is taking place.

Lyft

We are pleased to offer a $5 Lyft discount to our senior families. This discount is valid for one use per account on November 2 only. The pick-up location must be within a ½ mile radius of either:

  • The University of Portland (5000 N Willamette Blvd, Portland), or
  • The Nines Hotel (525 SW Morrison St., Portland).

If you do not have the Lyft app, you can download it here (discount will be automatically applied by clicking the link). If you already have the app, open the Lyft menu in the upper left-hand corner. Tap “Promos” and enter the code UPSENIOR19.

Transportation Options

Other transportation options include public transportation and driving your own car (valet parking is available for a fee). Please visit The Nines webpage for more information. There are also self-park garages within a few minutes walking distance that offer daily parking ranging from $12–20:

  • Smart Park, 818 SW 4th Ave
  • City Center Parking, 920 SW 6th Ave
  • Alder Street Garage, 615 SW Alder Street

Street Closures

Salmon St. is going to be closed between Main and Taylor during our event at the Nines Hotel. The recommended route to get to The Nines will be to take a right on 5th Avenue, left on Madison Street, left on 2nd Avenue, and left on Morrison Street. We do foresee traffic delays on Morrison St. so we highly encourage you to utilize ride shares or public transportation such as the MAX (which drops off across the hotel) or the Street Car. Please note that there will likely be a delay in vehicle retrieval from the valet. Please click here for a map of the area.

Dress to the Nines

We invite you to wear “smart casual” (semi-formal) attire for the Soiree. This could consist of: sports jacket with a tie, dress, skirt, dress pants, button-down or traditional business shirt or blouse, jacket, or dressy sweater. The most important thing is that you are comfortable and that you enjoy your evening in downtown Portland at The Nines Hotel!

Weather

The weather forecast for this weekend looks like it will be cold but sunny. We encourage you to bring plenty of layers and keep in mind that you will likely be walking around campus.

Team UP

Team UP connects the UP community together, one pin at a time. Since our founding in 1901, students, faculty, staff, alumni, and families are all members of the Team UP community. Visit Team UP on Friday evening from 3–6 p.m. in the UP Bookstore to pick up your pin!
