Noyce Scholars Program for MAT Students

The Noyce Scholars Program at the University of Portland will support career-changing STEM professionals enrolled in the UP MAT program. The main goal of the Noyce Program is to increase the number of highly-trained K-12 STEM teachers graduating from the MAT program at the University who will teach in high-needs schools. Recipients of the Noyce Scholarship are expected to have a drive to get young students involved in STEM disciplines. Recipients must have an undergraduate degree in a STEM field and must meet eligibility requirements.

Recipients will receive a $20,000 scholarship. Each MAT Noyce Scholar will be obligated to serve two years as a teacher in a high-needs school as a requisite for receiving the scholarship.

The Noyce Scholars Program for MAT students application requires three letters of recommendation from current professors and/or employers. Applicants are also required to undergo a personal interview and write an essay describing why they have selected their career path.

To be eligible for the Noyce MAT Program you must be:

  • A U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident
  • Graduating or graduated with degree in a STEM discipline
  • Interested in pursuing a career as an educator
  • Earned a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0
