Noyce Program for Undergraduates

Make a Difference in the World: Teach

We have no scholarships for undergraduates at this time.

Take the passion you have for science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) and ignite a fire for K-12 students. Help to develop an understanding and appreciation for STEM in our next generation and foster literacy in STEM in our populous through the Noyce Scholars program.

Noyce Scholars will be UP rising seniors with STEM majors. Scholars will be given a $10,000 scholarship their senior year(s).

Upon completing an undergraduate degree in a STEM major, the students are expected to complete the MAT at UP and will receive a $20,000 scholarship to help pay for the MAT program. Each Noyce Scholar will be obligated to serve two years as a teacher in a high-needs school for every year of scholarship. Scholars who do not complete the service requirement will have to repay a pro-rated amount based on the number of years served.

The Noyce Scholars Program application requires three letters of recommendation from current professors and/or employers. Applicants are also required to undergo a personal interview and write an essay describing why they have selected their career path.

To be eligible for the Noyce Scholarship you must be:

  • A U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident
  • An rising junior or senior at the University of Portland
  • Majoring in STEM discipline
  • Interested in entering the UP MAT program
  • Maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0

The undergraduate Noyce Program has concluded until the grant is renewed by the National Science Foundation.
