The COVID-19 Steering Committee and University leadership have been monitoring Omicron variant developments and studying the guidance of public health authorities. Based upon the information available to date, we believe the measures announced on January 4 will help us to safely and successfully begin our fall term.
UP is strongly recommending that all students undergo COVID-19 testing prior to returning to Portland. However, we understand that COVID-19 testing supplies are extraordinarily limited and that some students may have difficulty accessing a test. If you face significant hardship obtaining a test, you may still return to Portland if:
For those who are choosing not to return to campus for the first week of classes, you may end up needing to self-quarantine for your first week back in Portland.
Please email pilotsprevent@up.edu with the date that you plan to arrive back in Portland so that we can schedule your post-arrival test. More instructions for completing your post arrival test will be communicated when you email.
If a student is returning to campus late because they tested positive for COVID they do not need to participate in the post arrival testing event. They should report their recent result using the provided form.
If a student returns to campus late because they are ill with something other than COVID-19, they should email pilotsprevent@up.edu and we will record your name so that you can pick up your post-arrival test when you arrive on campus.
Visit the vaccine page for links to the student portal, employee portal, and instructions.
Fully vaccinated means that you have received both doses of a two-dose vaccine, or the single dose of a one-dose vaccine AND you have received the booster dose as soon as you are eligible. You must also be two weeks past the final dose.
Faculty, staff and students should not ask others (including colleagues, students, visitors) about their vaccine status. Vaccine information is private medical information. We are working through the Health and Counseling Center and Human Resources to reach 100% compliance with our Vaccination Policy.
Individuals are not required to provide their vaccine status to supervisors, colleagues or instructors as a condition of participation in work or academic activities.
Individuals who are not vaccinated are allowed to participate in meetings, in-person classroom instruction and other in-person activities.
The university is asking students, faculty and staff to either provide documentation of their vaccine status or declare an exemption – this information will be kept private and shared only with very few individuals on only a need-to-know basis, generally only related to contact tracing if there is an exposure, and screening compliance.
Yes, attendees will be required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test within 72 hours of the event.
Yes. The university is complying with Multnomah County public health recommendations and, at this time, there are no capacity restrictions for events.
Visitors are required to wear a mask while indoors. Visitors are asked to screen for symptoms and not come to campus if they are symptomatic.
If a visitor is exposed or tests positive and has been advised they may have been in close contact with someone in the UP community, they are asked to report it to Pilots Prevent.
Beginning Sept. 6, 2021, UP Athletics will begin requiring proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID-19 test to attend their events.
There is no need to do so since eating and drinking in classrooms is not allowed.
As with other required vaccinations, the University works from the position that all are compliant with the vaccination policy or moving to full compliance. Faculty thus are not permitted to ask students about their vaccine status. Vaccine information is an individual’s private medical information.

Consistent with policies in the State of Oregon, masks are not required in most outdoor public spaces at this time. There may be some campus events that do require attendees to wear face coverings. However, if you have received an exemption from the University’s vaccination requirement, you must adhere to the mask/face covering guidance that you have received in connection with your exemption.

No, due to the indoor mask mandate from the State of Oregon masks must be worn.
You should keep your mask on unless you’re actively eating or drinking. If a UP staff member, faculty or classmate asks you to please wear your mask, you are asked to kindly oblige.

Please email pilotsprevent@up.edu. Your information will be kept confidential.
The COVID Case Management Team will conduct contract tracing and provide guidance and information for isolation to any close contacts identified.
UP will not notify instructors or colleagues if a student or coworker tests positive unless it is necessary for contact tracing purposes. You will be notified of possible exposure only if you are identified as a close contact.
Even if a student or instructor becomes ill, not everyone in a classroom or office area will automatically be identified as a close contact.
The period for isolation after a positive test result is usually 5 days.
Please email pilotsprevent@up.edu. Your information will be kept confidential.
You can keep track of new cases on the COVID Case Dashboard posted weekly on the Pilots Prevent website.
