Classroom Safety Operations
Purpose:
To encourage safe operations in classrooms. Classrooms will be the most common shared spaces amongst students, faculty and staff. Following theses safety protocols will better protect against the spread of COVID-19:
Signage
- Signage will be placed in all classrooms to indicate where desks/chairs will be placed to maintain physical distance between students.
- Students will be required to sit in desks/chairs that have been marked to accommodate the proper physical distance.
- Classrooms that have two doors will be marked so that there is one entrance and one exit.
- Academic building will be marked with one-way flow of traffic, physical distancing reminders and other signs that will need to be followed.
Classroom Circulation
- The students from the previous class will always completely exit prior to the next class entering.
- Students need to always keep to the right and walk in one direction to prevent cross traffic in the classroom.
- Students will file into the classroom, always staying towards their right, walking to the farthest chair from the entrance.
- Upon the completion of the class, the student closest to the exit will leave first, following row by row until the room is empty.
Cleaning and Disinfection
- Classrooms will be cleaned and disinfected by Physical Plant nightly prior to when classes are scheduled.
- As students enter the classroom they will have access to supplies to clean their workspace.
- A paper towel dispenser and cleaning solution will be available in all classrooms.
- Professors are responsible to clean their workspace prior to class. This includes the keyboard, mouse and their work station.
- Professors will receive a packet of wipes from their department to clean these items.
Scheduling Classrooms
- Priority for scheduling classrooms will go to Academic classes.
- After academic classes are scheduled, time for cleaning and disinfection will be scheduled.
- If time blocks remain available, classrooms can be scheduled for student activities and meetings.
Classroom Supplies
- Professors will receive chalk, markers and erasers from their Department Office that they will be responsible to bring to class.
- 4’ by 4’ moveable plexiglass stands will be put in classrooms so that professors can move to their preferred teaching position to accommodate the removal of mask.
Face Coverings
- Face coverings are required by students in the classroom.
- Professors can remove face covering when directly behind the supplied plexiglass. As soon as they move away from the plexiglass they are required to put on their mask.
Miscellaneous
- Students will be allowed to work at the chalk/white board in a classroom as long as they can maintain physical distancing and are wearing a mask.
