Megan Rapinoe '08 Birthday Brainteaser

Portland Pilots alumni Megan Rapinoe ’08 led the USWNT to a Women’s World Cup Championship. Two days before she lifted the World Cup trophy and her individual honors for the Golden Ball trophy and the Golden Boot trophy, she celebrated her 34th birthday. Shiley School of Engineering professor Aziz Inan, known for his brainteasers, constructed a list of birthday “curiosities” in her honor.

Congratulations to Megan and USWNT!

1. Rapinoe turned 34 on 7/5/19 and if 34 is split as 3 and 4, the 3^rd and 4^th prime numbers, namely 5 and 7, put side by side as 7/5 yields Rapinoe’s birthdate.
2. Furthermore, if 7/5 is split as 7 and 5, 7 plus 5 equals 12, 12 equals 3 times 4, and 3 and 4 put side by side as 34 is Rapinoe’s new age.
3. The sum of 3 and 4 equals 7, the square-root of the sum of the squares of 3 and 4 is 5, and again, 7 and 5 put side by side results in 7/5.
4. Additionally, the prime factors of 34, namely 2 and 17, add up to 19.
5. Rapinoe’s 34^th birthday coincides with the 186^th day of 2019 and interestingly, 186 equals twice 93, the reverse of 93 is 39, and 39 equals the sum of the left and right halves of 2019.
