THE UNIVERSITY OF PORTLAND draws together people who believe in character, growth, and the power of education. Few reflect that spirit more than the Cebula family.

The Cebulas’ connection to UP runs deep. Cheryl, a kindergarten teacher turned CEO, is a longtime member of UP’s Board of Regents. Mike—class of 1980—is one of five generations to attend the University. Together, they’ve been loyal donors for over 30 years. Now, they’ve turned their values into a powerful legacy with a $2.5 million estate gift to endow scholarships for future Pilots.

“To us, it’s about giving back,” Mike says. “Cheryl was a first-generation college student, and we both worked our way through school. We’re fortunate to help students engage in the full UP experience and learn what it means to be good citizens.”

Their gift isn’t just about funding education—it’s about fostering hope.

“More and more, kids worry about the cost of college,” Cheryl says. “If someone has the drive and aptitude to attend, we want to help them. They could be the one to change the world.”

Ask Mike and Cheryl what makes UP different, and you’ll hear about its people, relationships, and mission. They’ve both felt this difference on a personal level. “Faculty and staff don’t come to The Bluff just to work,” Mike says. “They come to engage—with students, alumni, and the greater Portland community. Relationships are at the heart of UP, rooted in its Catholic, Holy Cross charisms and commitment to educate the whole person.”

Come see for yourself. Take a tour. Have coffee at the Pilot House. Meet today’s students who are brimming with hope and ready to make their mark on the world.
