About UP: UP Today
A few highlights of this year's events, activities, and accomplishments:
-
U.S. News and World Report named the University one of the ten top western regional universities. The University has been among the top ten regional universities for 15 years running. The University was also ranked among the top "best values" in the region for offering an excellent education at a reasonable cost, and the School of Engineering ranked 34th nationally among schools offering bachelor's and master's degrees.
- The engineering building received a $20 million expansion and renovation thanks
in large part to $12 million gift from Donald and Darlene Shiley of San Diego and $3.25 million in gifts and pledges from Ed and Sharon Sweo. The building was rededicated as Shiley Hall in October 2009.
- Schoenfeldt and Fields Halls, new student residences, opened in fall 2009.
- A gleaming, new 109-foot bell tower was erected near the Chapel of Christ the Teacher. A web cam keeps tabs on activity in the adjacent quad 24 hours a day.
- The Pamplin School of Business and the School of Nursing celebrate their 75th anniversaries in 2009-2010.
