Apply to UP as a First-Year Student

Choosing where to attend college isn’t just about earning a degree, it’s about discovering a place where you can truly grow, where you can unlock new goals, forge new connections, and achieve more than you ever dreamed. At University of Portland, we invite you into a community that’s built to help you thrive—intellectually, personally, and spiritually—from your first year to the life you’re called to lead.

Ready to apply to UP? Still exploring your options? Wherever you are in the process, we want to ensure you understand each step and have the support you need to start your college journey on the right foot.

How to Apply

We take a student-centered approach to the application process, aiming to make it simple to navigate. Find a clear breakdown of how to apply to UP as a first-year student, including important deadlines, admission requirements, and information about credit evaluation.

Before you apply to UP, it’s helpful to understand the timing of our admissions process and the benefits of applying early. At University of Portland, students who submit their application and all required materials by the Early Action deadline of December 1 receive an admissions decision within four weeks, giving them extra time to explore financial aid, housing, and the steps that come next. The Regular Decision deadline is February 15 (final deadline for Nursing applicants). We also have a June 1 Late Decision deadline on a space-available basis.

Use our application timeline to explore key admissions deadlines and important dates to keep in mind after you apply.

Start Your UP Application

Apply with the Common App

We look forward to learning more about you: your academic journey, your interests, and what inspires you. Once you complete your UP application, you’ll need to send additional documents to complete your file. Review the descriptions of the documents and how you can submit them.

High School Transcript(s)

Your high school counselor or registrar can submit your official high school transcript electronically or by emailing it to admission_documents@up.edu. Your transcript should include, at minimum, your 9th-grade courses through your most recently completed term.

If you prefer, you can upload your unofficial high school transcript through your University of Portland Applicant Portal after completing your application. However, once you confirm your enrollment at UP, your high school counselor or registrar must send your official final high school transcript.

Note: International students must submit an official high school transcript directly from their secondary school.

Letter of Recommendation or Secondary School Report

To reduce barriers in the application process, we’re currently waiving the requirement to submit a letter of recommendation or a secondary school report. If you’d still like to submit either document, your high school counselor or a teacher can submit them electronically or by emailing admission_documents@up.edu.

SAT/ACT Test Scores (Optional)

University of Portland is test-optional for students applying through Fall 2026. On your application, you can indicate whether or not to have your test scores considered in your admissions evaluation. Choosing not to submit your test scores will not place your application at a disadvantage.

If you want to include your SAT or ACT scores, you can submit them in one of these ways:

  • Self-report your test scores on your application.
  • Download the score report (PDF) from your College Board or ACT account and email it to admission_documents@up.edu.
  • Have the testing agency send your official scores directly to UP.
    • ACT Code: 3500
    • SAT Code: 4847

Note: If you use self-reported test scores on your application, you must submit official test scores before attending University of Portland.
