In 2012, the University of Portland ranked first nationwide among master’s institutions with the number of students who won Fulbright awards for the third consecutive year, according to The Chronicle of Higher Education. University of Portland students have won a total of 46 Fulbrights since 2001.
- University of Portland was named a Top Workplace 2012 and ranked in the top ten of all large workplaces in the Portland metropolitan area, according to a study released by The Oregonian.

ranked the University of Portland no. 3 nationally among 551 “master’s universities” for public service in 2012.

- The Entrepreneur Scholars Program was named the Outstanding Specialty Entrepreneurship Program by the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE) in 2001 and 2012.

U.S. News & World Report has also ranked the University of Portland 6th in its "Great Schools, Great Prices" category, recognizing it for providing an excellent education at a reasonable cost.
- University of Portland's School of Engineering is a perennially top-40 school among the nation's bachelor and master degree-granting institutions, according to U.S. News & World Report. In 2012, it ranked 35th.
- University of Portland’s Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) has been cited as the nation’s top program in its category—twice in 8 years—winning the prestigious “Right of Line” award.
- The University of Portland Bell Tower won top honors at the Masonry & Ceramic Tile Institute of Oregon’s 2011 Hammurabi Awards, earning the highest available prize for design excellence.
- American Assembly for Men in Nursing named the University of Portland the nation’s Best Nursing School for Men.

The University of Portland has been named, six consecutive times, to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, which recognizes exemplary service efforts and service to disadvantaged youth.
- The School of Nursing received the Innovations in Professional Nursing Education Award from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) in 2007 as well as the AACN/Hartford Institute Award for Exceptional Baccalaureate Curriculum in Gerontologic Nursing.
- The University was named one of America's 12 AAHE/Carnegie Cluster Leaders as part of the second phase of the Carnegie Campus Program. As cluster leader, the University assists other "learning-centered" universities in developing a "culture of scholarly teaching" through faculty development, formal policy changes, and collaboration with external partners.
- The Center for Entrepreneurship was named the Educational Program of the Year by the Young Entrepreneurs' Organization in 2003.
- The School of Education's Bridgebuilders Tutoring and Academic Support Program received the 2002 Model of Excellence Award from the Association of Independent Colleges for Teacher Education (AILACTE). The Bridge Builders program aims to strengthen the African-American community by administering African-centered "rites of passage" programs built on spirituality, scholarship, entrepreneurship, and community building.
- The University received the Academy of Educational Leadership’s "Innovative and Creative Education Award" for its focus on entrepreneurship education across all disciplines at the University.
