What Will I Learn in the Master’s in Education?

MEd Courses

In this advanced practice program, the MEd curriculum aims to build upon your existing professional knowledge and experience in teaching and educational leadership.

Specialize the master of education degree program by selecting one of the following endorsements that align with your area of interest:

  • Reading Intervention - Provide reading instruction and diagnose and remediate reading problems in diverse instructional settings.
  • Special Education - Hone your ability to assess students with special needs and develop and design appropriate instructional support.
  • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) - Advance your ability to provide assessment, instruction, and evaluation of English language learners.

Admissions Process

Apply to UP’s master of education program by submitting the following:

  1. MEd Statement of Goals
  2. Current résumé
  3. Copy of either a United States or Canadian-issued teaching license (must be current and valid)
    1. The Principal License specialty option requires a minimum of 3 years of in-school experience as a licensed educator prior to beginning Principal License coursework.
  4. Two graduate recommendation letters
  5. Official transcripts (from all previously attended academic institutions)
  6. A bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from an accredited college or university recognized by the University of Portland
  7. An undergraduate G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale)
