Accreditation and Assessment Learning Outcomes

Our nationally accredited Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Program is required to assess its effectiveness in helping students master certain practice behaviors, as articulated by the Council of Social Work Education (CSWE). For more information on program assessment and evaluation for the Dorothy Day Social Work Program, please contact BSW Program Director, Lizz Schallert.

Advanced Standing

Accreditation by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) ensures that the University of Portland's BSW Program meets national standards for social work education. As a fully accredited program, the University of Portland provides graduates with opportunities that may not be available to students from non-accredited institutions.

Graduates of accredited undergraduate social work programs are eligible to apply for advanced standing in many accredited Master of Social Work (MSW) programs, allowing them to enter directly into the second year of graduate study. Students can explore participating programs and their advanced-standing options through the CSWE directory of accredited programs.

Community Advisory Board

The Dorothy Day Social Work Program Community Advisory Board (CAB) consists of local social workers and community leaders who have experience and interest in supporting social work education and the University of Portland Dorothy Day Social Work Program (DDSWP). CAB members share expertise and insights practice contexts that will ensure a relevant and robust BSW experience for UP students.
