Ensemble Performance

Throughout the program, performance is central to your development as an artist. Accordingly, as a music student, you are required to participate in an ensemble related to your instrument of concentration every term. Ensemble activities include regular campus concerts, concert tours, competitions, musical workshops, and more. This strengthens the knowledge gained in the classroom and allows you to become more confident and adept at performing.

Music Club

UP’s Music Club student organization connects you with exciting music and arts experiences on and off campus. These include discounted access to performances at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall or Keller Auditorium, symphonies, Broadway shows, and operas. On campus, the club hosts jam sessions and “Music at Midnight” events in Mago Hunt Recital Hall, where students gather for music, fun, and community. The club is a great way to explore the arts and connect with fellow music enthusiasts.

Music Student Spotlight

The opportunity that truly defined my experience at UP was serving as a conducting associate for three semesters, working with both Dr. De Lyser and the University Singers, and Kathryn Briggs and the Women’s Chorale. This kind of hands-on exposure to conducting during my undergraduate degree was an incredible opportunity that, I later learned, is typically unheard of at the undergraduate level. Through this experience, I developed a level of musicality, intricacy, and confidence that truly molded me as a musician, a conductor, and a person.
