About

Ben Tribelhorn is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of Portland's Donald P. Shiley School of Engineering. He holds a B.S. from Harvey Mudd College and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Oregon State University, as well as an M.B.A. from the University of Portland.

Dr. Tribelhorn joined the faculty at UP in 2017, having previously taught at Seattle University. He co-founded Revolution Robotics, Inc., a company focused on laboratory automation and educational robotics. His teaching spans software engineering, artificial intelligence, and mobile app development.

His research and professional interests span ethics and trustworthy AI, applied machine learning, software engineering pedagogy, and entrepreneurial mindset in engineering education. He is active in the KEEN faculty network, mentoring faculty across the U.S. on integrating entrepreneurial thinking into engineering curricula.

Ben has an exceptionally broad record of service at UP and beyond. He currently serves as Chair of the Academic Senate and its Executive Committee — among the most significant faculty governance roles at the university — and has been an Academic Senate member since 2019, previously serving as Secretary. Within the Shiley School, he currently chairs the Shiley Grants Committee and has mentored junior faculty, served on multiple search committees, and advised the Robotics Club since 2017. Professionally, he is a Board Member of the Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges (CCSC), a KEEN Facilitator and Coach supporting entrepreneurial mindset integration in engineering education nationally, and has contributed to SIGCSE and CCSC-NW in organizing and reviewing capacities.
