Fr. Antonelli entered Holy Cross from South Bend, Indiana, professing first vows in 1958 and being ordained in December, 1965, in Rome. After further studies in ancient near eastern studies at The Johns Hopkins, a doctorate in biblical studies (Old Testament) from the University of Strasbourg (France) and studies in biblical archeology in Palestine, he began teaching at Notre Dame while on staff at the seminary, and was privileged to have spent five years at the Trappist monastery in Kentucky. In 1977, he became a member of the formation staff, librarian, and spiritual director at Moreau Seminary (Notre Dame, Indiana), later spending two years as a hermit-in-residence at the Solitude of the Savior (Rolling Prairie, Indiana), providing fellow C.S.C.s the hospitality of silence and solitude. Following this time, Fr. Antonelli was reassigned to the Holy Cross generalate, where he served as general archivist for Holy Cross in Rome. He arrived at the University of Portland in 1999 as University Archivist.  Having retired in 2013, he continues to volunteer there, while residing at Holy Cross Court.
