About

Bradley R. Franco (Ph.D. 2010 Syracuse University) is associate professor history at the University of Portland. Dr. Franco teaches courses in ancient and medieval history, including Medieval European History, the Age of the Crusades, the Ancient Mediterranean World, and Saints and Sinners in the Middle Ages, as well as upper-level seminars focusing on the Italian Renaissance and Roman history. He has published articles examining Renaissance foundation legends, the art of the Franciscan order, and the relationship between secular and religious authorities in medieval Siena (Italy). Dr. Franco has also published several books, including The World of St. Francis of Assisi (Brill 2015) and most recently, The History of Siena: From Its Origins to the Present Day (Routledge 2019). He lives in North Portland with his wife, two children, and our puppy, Luna.
