Christopher Gallagher

Captain Christopher Gallagher commissioned through ROTC into the Oregon Army National Guard in 2011 and began his military career with Company D, 1st Battalion, 186th Infantry Regiment. A graduate of California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, he holds a bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in military science. He has also earned professional certifications in project management, occupational safety and health, and quality control and assurance, among others. His military education includes the Infantry Basic Officer Leader Course, Maneuver Captains Career Course, Senior ROTC Recruiting Operations Officer Course, and Common Faculty Development Instructor Course.

Throughout his career, Capt. Gallagher has served in a variety of leadership, operational, instructional, and staff assignments. Early in his service, he led infantry platoons and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, serving in Mazar-e-Sharif, Bagram, Kandahar, and Kabul. During that deployment, he held several key headquarters positions supporting multinational operations and coordination efforts.

From 2018 to 2022, Capt. Gallagher served with the Southern Oregon University (SOU) ROTC program, where he worked as an instructor, human resources administrator, and recruiting operations officer. During this assignment, he also deployed to Africa, overseeing operations in Djibouti and Somalia before returning to SOU.

Following subsequent assignments as a company commander, headquarters company commander, liaison officer, and battalion operations leader, Capt. Gallagher supported deployments and training missions across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Most recently, he has served in battalion leadership positions supporting major training exercises and the Multinational Force and Observers Mission in Sinai, Egypt.
