Holly Simpson, MS, RN, CNE, worked as a caregiver and med tech in a senior care community and interned with the social work department at Providence Newberg Hospital, while obtaining her first degree in social work. She quickly loved working with elders and it became her focus over the next 10 years, alternating from direct care roles to service coordination to administration of an assisted living, and memory care facility in Salem. After these various roles, it was clear that a nursing degree was a natural next step. Holly graduated from the University of Portland with a BSN and went on to earn a master’s in nursing education. She has worked in senior care communities for several years, and equal to her joy of providing nursing care to elders, was her love of training, encouraging, and supporting staff. She is blessed to combine nursing with educational and character development of students – who represent the best and brightest future for healthcare today.
