Jon Stanfill has taught at the University of Portland since 2016. He specializes in the history of Christianity in late antiquity (250-750 CE). He is currently working on his first book which examines the interplay between ethnicity, alterity, and religious identity in the theology of John Chrysostom, a fifth-century bishop of Constantinople. Jon received his PhD in Theology (History of Christianity) from Fordham University (2015). At UP, he has taught Engaging Ultimate Questions (our introduction to theology) as well as Biblical Texts, Race and Ethnicity in Ancient Christianity, Violence in Ancient Christianity, and Byzantine Christianity. After enjoying a decade in the Bronx, he is thrilled to be back home in the Pacific Northwest and resides in Kalama, WA. He is also very active in his local community and serves on the Kalama City Council.
