About

Kristin Sweeney is a geologist with a specialty in process geomorphology. She teaches courses in environmental geoscience, natural hazards, surficial geology, remote sensing, and GIS. Before coming to the University of Portland, Kristin was a postdoctoral scientist at the U.S. Geological Survey Cascades Volcano Observatory. Her research interests include landscape response to volcanic eruptions, feedbacks between ecosystems and landscape development (especially on rocky coasts), and the application of probabilistic methods to eroding landscapes. When not pontificating about sand and gravel, Kristin enjoys word puzzles, backpacking, ultimate Frisbee, and fussing over her plants, indoor and out.
