"My goal is to guide students through their own journey into nursing, not just teach them, because when students feel safe to ask questions and bring their own perspective, they will build careers that are truly fulfilling."
Sarah Scholz received her bachelor of science in nursing from Xavier University and a bachelor of science in public health from Oregon State University. Sarah originally planned to pursue hospital administration, but her work as a chemotherapy scheduler and bone marrow transplant planner changed her path. While coordinating care for patients navigating our complex and challenging healthcare system, she realized she wanted to work directly with patients rather than behind the scenes. During nursing school, she worked in pediatric fertility preservation, where she enjoyed being part of a developing area of research and patient care.
As a nurse, Sarah's diverse clinical background began in the as a float pool nurse in pediatrics, followed by experience in urgent care and radiation medicine. No matter the setting, Sarah found the most fulfillment in seeing and advocating for the whole person behind each patient. She wants to bring that same connection into the classroom. She is equally committed to teaching self-care, self-advocacy, and sustainable practice, areas that aren't always emphasized in traditional nursing education, helping future nurses find resilience and positivity in a demanding field.
Outside of work, Sarah is an active volunteer in the community, with much of her time focused on supporting unhoused and low-income folks as well as their animal companions. She enjoys staying active through hiking, playing ultimate frisbee, and mountaineering. At home, she is a devoted cat mom and enjoys a good audiobook.
