UP ROTC Cadets Engage Service and Skill with Habitat for Humanity
On October 8, 2026, University of Portland Army ROTC cadets (Nathan Balbin, Casyn Bardos, Seth Kangas, Luke Shepard) joined Danner's Marketing Manager for the Danner Boots and Habitat for Humanity "Build Day" at in Southwest Portland. Danner is a Center of Influence (COI) for the UP Army ROTC program and a longtime partner of Habitat for Humanity. Community has always been central to Danner's values, and this event recognized Habitat's work providing affordable housing across the region. It also highlighted a growing interest among young people in skilled trades and community service.
Working side by side with Danner and Habitat volunteers on an active build site, cadets put the Army Value of selfless service into practice. The day also introduced them to the many craft and trade career paths available in the Portland area. The skills on display, including planning, teamwork, and attention to detail, are the same ones that shape effective Army officers. "Partnerships like this one with Danner are how we advance our presence in the Greater Portland Area and pour into the personal and professional growth of our cadets" said LTC Terrance Pitts, Professor of Military Science. Days like this support the Holy Cross approach of educating the head, heart, and hands. Our cadets learn, they serve with purpose, and they build something lasting for the community."
The Pilot Battalion thanks Danner and Habitat for Humanity for including our cadets and for their continued commitment to Portland!
