How will I get a roommate?

The housing application lets students build their own roommate profile. In December 2025, staff in the Office of Residence Life will use housing application/profile data to pair each incoming student up with a compatible roommate.

When will I learn my housing and roommate assignments?

Students should submit their housing applications by December 10th, 2025. Housing and roommate assignments will be created and communicated shortly after that.

When will I move in?

New incoming first-year and transfer students should plan to move in on Thursday, January 8th 2026. More details, including times, will be available later this Fall. Unfortunately, new incoming students cannot arrive earlier than their scheduled Move In Day.

Continuing students, including those returning from studying abroad, can move in on Saturday, January 10th 2026 or Sunday, January 11th 2026.

Where can first-year students live?

Students in their first year of college live in six of our residence halls:

Female-Facing Halls: Kenna and Mehling Halls

Male-Facing Halls: Christie and Villa Maria Halls

Co-Ed Halls: Corrado and Shipstad Halls

Two Year Residency Requirement & Experience

In support of the residential nature of UP and our emphasis on community, and based on longstanding research linking on campus housing with student and academic success in college, all full-time undergraduate students are required to live on campus during their first and second years at UP. For the purposes of this requirement, class year is based on total number of academic years in college.

Please click here to read about the benefits of living on campus, especially at UP!

On campus housing is also available for our juniors, seniors and graduate students, and many of these students choose to continue living on campus for their entire time at UP.

Two Year Residency Requirement Exemptions

Incoming students who will be in their first or second years of college may request to be exempt from UP's two-year residency requirement. Preference will be given to students who have confirmed their enrollment or plan to after receiving a housing exemption response.

Exemptions will only be approved in cases where both of the following criteria are met:

  1. The incoming student will be residing at home with parent(s) and/or guardian(s);
  2. The incoming student will be residing at an address that is within a 20-mile radius of the UP campus.

Exemptions will also be approved for incoming students who will be 21 years of age or older at the start of their first semester on campus, and/or who are married.

To apply for an exemption to UP's two year residency requirement, please submit this application form. Incoming Students will need to log in to their UP applicant portal to access this form (their username is the email address they applied to UP with). Housing requirement exemption applications are reviewed twice monthly by a committee. Applicants will be emailed within two weeks with a decision on their residency requirement exemption request.
