How To Sign Up
Welcome to UP — we're so glad you're here!
Living on campus is one of the best parts of the college experience, and we can't wait to help you find your home at UP. Here's how to get started:
To apply for housing, you'll need to have confirmed your enrollment and set up your PilotsUP portal access. Once you've done that, you're ready to go! Click the "Sign Up for Housing" button below to access the Pilot Housing Portal. When you log in, we recommend selecting "Single Sign On (SSO)" — it's the quickest and easiest way in.
When prompted, select the Academic Year 2026–2027 application.
That's it! And if you run into any questions along the way, we're always happy to help. Reach out to the Office of Residence Life anytime at reslife@up.edu or 503-943-7205.
Commonly Asked Questions
When you complete your housing application, you'll fill out a Roommate Questionnaire — a short set of questions about your habits and preferences, like your sleep schedule, tidying style, and how often you like having people over. Your answers help us make sure you and your roommate are set up for a great experience together.
From there, you have a few options:
Let us match you (our recommendation) Fill out your profile, then relax — we've got it from here. In late June, our office uses a proven matching process to pair students based on their questionnaire responses. Year after year, students who let us handle the match tend to have the strongest roommate relationships and the fewest bumps along the way. Trust the process!
Request a specific roommate Already know who you want to live with? Select "I know who I want to live with" to pair up with them once you've both submitted complete housing applications.
Search or browse on your own You can search for compatible students directly using their roommate profiles, or use "Suggest Roommates" to see students whose answers closely match yours. Tip: focus on the 2–3 things that matter most to you — that'll give you a handful of great matches to consider rather than an overwhelming list.
No matter which path you choose, you're in good hands. Roommate relationships are one of the best parts of living on campus, and we're here to help you start yours on the right foot.
Housing and roommate assignments are sent out by email at the end of June, after the final Summer WAVE session. We time it this way intentionally — we want to make sure every student has had the chance to visit campus and update their housing application if needed before assignments are finalized.
That said, there's no pressure to change a thing. If you've already filled out your Roommate Questionnaire and are opting to let us handle the roommate matching, you're in great shape — just enjoy your WAVE visit and watch your inbox at the end of June!
Move-In Day for all incoming first-year and transfer students is Thursday, August 20, 2026. You'll receive a specific arrival time by email in early August, so keep an eye on your UP inbox!
We ask that all new students wait until their scheduled arrival time to come to campus — this helps everything run smoothly and makes sure your move-in experience is as easy and welcoming as possible.
First-year students are housed in one of five residence halls:
- Kenna Hall (female-facing)
- Mehling Hall (female-facing)
- Villa Maria Hall (male-facing) — to be freshly renovated for Fall 2026!
- Corrado Hall (co-ed)
- Shipstad Hall (co-ed) — newly refreshed in 2025!
In the Honors Program? A limited number of first-year Honors students have the option to live on the dedicated Honors Floor, located on the third floor of Friends and Schoenfeldt Halls.
We've got you covered! If you have any accessibility or housing accommodation needs, please reach out to the Office of Accessible Education Services (AES) as soon as possible — the sooner you connect with them, the better. They're a wonderful team and will be happy to work with you to make sure your living experience at UP is the right fit.
Don't wait on this one — starting early gives everyone the best chance to get everything in place before you arrive on campus. Reach out to AES today!
Two Year Residency Requirement & Experience
In support of the residential nature of UP and our emphasis on community, and based on longstanding research linking on campus housing with student and academic success in college, all full-time undergraduate students are required to live on campus during their first and second years at UP. For the purposes of this requirement, class year is based on total number of academic years in college.
Please click here to read about the benefits of living on campus, especially at UP!
On campus housing is also available for our juniors, seniors and graduate students, and many of these students choose to continue living on campus for their entire time at UP.
Two Year Residency Requirement Exemptions
Incoming students who will be in their first or second years of college may request to be exempt from UP's two-year residency requirement. Preference will be given to students who have confirmed their enrollment or plan to after receiving a housing exemption response.
Exemptions will only be approved in cases where both of the following criteria are met:
- The incoming student will be residing at home with parent(s) and/or guardian(s);
- The incoming student will be residing at an address that is within a 20-mile radius of the UP campus.
Exemptions will also be approved for incoming students who will be 21 years of age or older at the start of their first semester on campus, and/or who are married.
To apply for an exemption to UP's two year residency requirement, please submit this application form. Incoming Students will need to log in to their UP applicant portal to access this form (their username is the email address they applied to UP with). Housing requirement exemption applications are reviewed twice monthly by a committee. Applicants will be emailed within two weeks with a decision on their residency requirement exemption request. For questions, contact the Office of Residence Life at reslife@up.edu.
