My Boss Scares Me

Not really, but he threatens to fire me a lot.

I love working for the Office of Admissions. I say this not for a pay increase (they wouldn’t anyway, haha), but because of the opportunities it has given me to meet some amazing people. In addition to this blog, I also tour several times a week. Maybe I even gave you a tour once.

This past weekend was Weekend on the Bluff, and I toured quite a bit for the prospective families. I also sang about a kitty being in jail with the University Singers, but we don’t need to get into that. I’m embarrassed enough as is on that one. I love talking to people though. Hearing the stories, aspirations, and goals of the prospective students reminds me of myself coming into college a few years ago. I had no idea what I wanted to do, who I wanted to be, or where I should go.

Faith got me through it then, and it gets me through everything else now. I think that’s how I’m better dealing with the stress of projects and exams right now.  I look at past stressors and realize how silly I was in being so afraid. I’ve managed to make it to the ripe age of 21, have specific goals in marketing, and am enjoying my remaining time in college. So if all that worked out when I never thought it would, I think I can manage a few exams on bankruptcy law, weighted average costs of capital, and personality traits of organizational behavior…

…and Tom. My very scary (but not really) blogging boss.

I’ll admit it. This should have been up yesterday, but I flaked out while studying for my law exam.

I’m a bad person.

I made burgers with my housemate Jack and a future housemate, Tim. They’re both Air Force ROTC, and quite awesome people. We discovered that I couldn’t slice tomatoes well.

I am also doing marketing for my friend Bobby’s rock opera. Sound odd? It probably is, but who cares: the music is unbelievable. He did such a great job arranging this music. It’s the Barber of Seville, but in the style of an electric rock opera. The band, also known as the “Guitarmy,” is comprised of all electric instruments. They did a short set at the Battle of the Bands here on campus Thursday night, and they won! They dominated to be fully accurate.

Let me close with this fun fact:

If you file Chapter 7 Bankruptcy, the government cannot take your fish or grain if you’re a farmer to pay your debt. That said, Bessie the Cow is completely fair game. And your pigs. And your ducks.

I’m currently debating if I want to hold a protest concerning this injustice.
