What We Do
The FGEN program has a number of initiatives meant to support FGEN students and encourage participation in various on campus activities. From a mentorship program that pairs FGEN students with student mentors, various activities throughout the year, or educational events for FGEN students; the FGEN program is both a community and support for its students.
Mentorship Program
In the Mentorship Program, FGEN students who sign up are matched with one of our FGEN student mentors. Mentors meet with their mentees and help provide advice, guidance, and support to their students.
Events & Activities
Throughout the year FGEN holds many events and activities designed to give FGEN students the opportunity to connect with each other and learn more about opportunities available to them. From fun activities like carving pumpkins, to celebrating graduates, to educational sessions, there's a little something for everyone!

In past years, FGEN has held the following events to support and offer community to FGEN students at the university:
FGEN Week
Instead of a single day, UP chooses to stretch National First Generation College Day into a whole week. A variety of activities and events are held for FGEN students to participate in.
FGEN Pinning Ceremony
Graduating seniors are recognized for their accomplishments and leadership within the FGEN community. In addition, we seek to honor other members of the FGEN community for their successes as all depart campus.
FirstUP Social
The FirstUP social is a welcome event specific for our first year first-generation students, and is the first opportunity to gather collectively as a community. Current and new students will have a chance to meet other first-generation students, faculty and staff, share conversation and stories, and, importantly, begin building your community at UP.
