University of Portland is proud to announce the beginning of a new era of hands-on learning and discovery: The Shiley-Marcos Center for Design & Innovation is now open for creative thinkers to collaborate, experiment and bring new inventions to life.

About The Shiley-Marcos Center

The Shiley-Marcos Center for Design & Innovation provides opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration with spaces and resources for ideation, prototyping, testing, digital design and technology, virtual and augmented reality, fabrication, machining, and industry partner projects.

Equipment & Facilities

The LEED Gold Certified SMCDI boasts over 43,000 square feet of space dedicated to innovation and design with open, collaborative meeting spaces, study lounges, and faculty and staff offices. Pilots work directly with resident industry partners (Daimler Trucks North America, Hyster-Yale, and Tektronix) in dedicated test lab suites, receiving on-campus professional training while they're still at UP.

UP continues to fundraise for the new facility, which will be an incubator for new ideas and a hub for collaborative, multidisciplinary learning. In the spirit of the building’s namesake, the new Center positions University of Portland to graduate generations of future inventors and innovators. Gifts of all sizes support our new, state-of-the-art learning space. Naming opportunities are also available from engineering testing labs to industry partner, fabrication, machining spaces and much more.
