Three Options for Plans of Study

University of Portland offers three options for the bachelor of arts in philosophy, allowing you to select the pathway that best aligns with your interests and professional goals:

  • Option 1—emphasis on the history of philosophy, designed for students planning to pursue graduate studies in philosophy or whose primary interest is in the history of philosophy
  • Option 2—designed for students who desire to complement an interest in philosophy with business, education, or any of the liberal arts
  • Option 3—the philosophy, politics, and policy option that results in a double major in philosophy and political science and global affairs

Philosophy Courses

The philosophy degree coursework acquaints you with the intellectual foundations of Western civilization and provides opportunities to question assumptions.
