Apply as a First-Year Student

We operate on a rolling admissions cycle and begin reviewing applications on September 1. UP accepts the University of Portland application or the Common Application.  We give equal consideration to each applicant and do not have a preference between the University of Portland application or the Common Application.

Apply for Fall 2020!

UP reviews applications with rolling admissions; we recommend applying by our priority deadline of November 15. The Office of Admissions will begin the evaluation process for each individual applicant as soon as the application is complete.  Please allow 3-4 weeks for your documents to be processed and verified.

Accepted students who wish to attend UP the upcoming fall must confirm their enrollment by May 1 (postmark date).

Members of University of Portland’s first-year class are among the best, brightest, and most academically qualified students in the Pacific Northwest. The first-year class for the 2018-19 year entered with a middle 50% SAT score of 1140 to 1320, middle 50% ACT composite score of 23 to 28, and an average GPA of 3.65 (cumulative and unweighted.) Please note that we will superscore the SAT and take the highest composite ACT score.

Application Checklist

Submit all of the documents in the checklist, and our Office of Admissions will process them and review applications as they come in.

Applicants interested in nursing must 1) complete one year of chemistry by the end of their senior year and 2) must declare nursing as their intended major on the application.

How to Request Supporting Application Documents

Please note: If you have already requested or submitted your supporting documents, please allow additional time for processing.

Test Scores

There are three ways to submit your test scores for the purpose of admission. Record self reported scores on your application, download the score report (PDF) through your CollegeBoard/ACT account and send to, or have the testing agency submit your scores for you (our ACT code is 3500 and our SAT code is 4847).
*If self reported scores are used for admission purposes, you are required to submit official test scores if you decide to attend University of Portland.
