Library Cards for Alumni and Visitors
As part of our commitment to engaging with our community, the Clark Library provides free access to select library materials for Alumni, residents of the city of Portland, and those affiliated with Summit Schools. We also offer fee cards for those who do not qualify for a free card.
Library Cards are Available to:
Items that can be checked out with an alumni card:
Alumni may check out up to 5 items at a time from all circulating collections except reserves, equipment, and periodicals. Items may be checked out for 6 weeks.
Alumni are able to access online resources in-person by using one of the library computers or with a personal device connected to the UP Guest wireless network. For more information, visit Alumni Access to Online Resources.
Alumni with fines or fees over $300 or 5 or more overdue items will have their borrowing privileges suspended until items are returned or fines are paid.
How to obtain an alumni card:
To obtain a library card, please visit the alumni office during business hours Monday through Friday to obtain an alumni identification card, and bring it to the Library.
The Library uses the alumni identification card to verify your status before making a library card. Alumni library cards are active for 5 years and can be renewed.
Residents of the city of Portland are eligible to receive a free Portland community card that allows them to check out materials from the Clark Library. Portland community cards are active for three years and can be renewed.
Items that can be checked out with a Portland community card:
Up to 5 items at a time from all circulating collections except the media, reserves, equipment, and curriculum collections. Items may be checked out for 6 weeks.
The Portland community card does not include either on- or off-campus access to the library's online resources (including databases, e-books, streaming video, etc.)
Portland community card users with fines or fees over $300 or 5 or more overdue items will have their borrowing privileges suspended until items are returned or fines are paid.
How to obtain a Portland community card:
Ask at the Library Service Desk on Level One (map).
Please bring an Oregon Driver’s License or other identification to show proof of address. Address must be within the city of Portland to qualify.
in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho, which operates a book sharing program called Summit. Students, faculty, and staff from these institutions are able to sign up for a Summit visitor card that provides access to most of our materials.
Items that can be checked out with a Summit visitor card:
Summit visitors are able to check out an unlimited number of items from all circulating collections except course reserves and equipment. Items may be check out for 12 weeks.
Summit visitors may also request to pick up Summit items at University of Portland (or any other participating library). Before requesting that a Summit item be delivered to UP, patrons must come to the Library Service Desk in Clark Library and request a Summit Visitor card.
How to obtain a Summit visitor Card:
Visit the Service Desk on Level One (map). with a student ID from your institution. You will also need to provide proof of current enrollment/affiliation to qualify.
Guests and visitors not affiliated with the University of Portland or the Orbis Cascade Alliance consortia, and who are not residents of the City of Portland, may purchase a fee card to check out materials from the Clark Library.
Price of fee cards:
- $15 for 3 months
- $30 for 6 months
- $45 for 9 months
- $60 for 12 months
