Designated as a Military Friendly® Silver School, UP showcases on its profile page mission-driven classes that emphasize leadership, ethics, and service, “while a supportive, close-knit campus community helps military-connected students thrive academically, personally, and professionally.”

Military Friendly®, in consultation with independent leaders in the military community, evaluated 3,200 organizations using public data and responses from a proprietary survey. UP is one of 878 schools designated Military Friendly® for excellence in student recruitment, retention, academic progress, graduation rates, career placement, and support services.

“UP is deeply committed to the holistic success and well-being of all students,” said University President Robert D. Kelly, PhD. “This commitment extends to the many military-connected students we are blessed to educate. I’m hopeful that this new designation—combined with our long-standing emphasis on forming leaders of conscience, character, and integrity—will help us to attract even more military-connected students in the future.”

University of Portland’s Air Force ROTC program, a campus institution for more than 65 years, educates and trains America’s next generation of Air Force and Space Force officers. Like AFROTC, the University’s Army ROTC program, known as “Pilot Battalion,” serves as the Portland-metro area headquarters for numerous colleges and universities to learn and train under one unit.

“Earning the Military Friendly® designation is more than a badge of honor; it is a reflection of an institution’s deep-rooted values and strategic commitment to those who served,” said Kayla Lopez, Military Friendly® Vice President of Memberships. “These schools don’t just open doors for veterans and military spouses, they build sustainable pathways for academic success and long-term impact.”

University of Portland will be featured in the 2026-2027 Guide to Military Friendly Schools® in the April issue of G.I. Jobs magazine and on MilitaryFriendly.com.
