Orientation 2020

Orientation is a very special time on campus because it is an opportunity for us to welcome you into our community and assist you in making the smoothest transition possible. Through an exciting and informative program of activities and events, Orientation will help you build relationships with fellow new students, returning students, faculty, and staff. Find out about UP's plans for Fall Semester at Back to The Bluff.

As you acclimate to the campus and the location where you will live, study, relax, and play, you will also learn many important aspects of University life, including:

  • the mission of the University;
  • what faculty expect and how to become a successful student;
  • the student services and academic advising the University provides;
  • your rights and responsibilities as a student at the University;
  • how to get involved in campus life outside the classroom, particularly through Engage;
  • the layout of the University campus (view a campus map);
  • how to access important information, particularly through our website and the campus web portal, PilotsUP;
  • common terminology used by UP students, faculty, staff, and alumni (a.k.a. "Pilot Speak")

For the health and safety of our community during this COVID-19 pandemic, we will not be providing programs and activities for parents and family members during Orientation. To ensure physical distancing during the residence hall move-in process, all students will receive assigned move-in dates and times by July 3. Students may bring up to two adult guests to help them move in and assist them with getting comfortable in their residence hall. Students and their move-in guests should prepare for a streamlined move-in process by having all belongings and supplies ready to move in during their designated appointment time. To support physical distancing efforts during move-in week, limited appointments will be available beginning August 3 for nearby students and families who may wish to drop items off early. Dining plans and building access will be activated on each student’s designated move-in day and time.

If you have any questions about the Orientation program, please feel free to contact us at stuact@up.edu. Staff members are currently teleworking, so communication via email is preferred, though we are also available by phone at 503.943.7470 on weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. where you can leave a detailed voicemail.
