Grief can be really hard and sometimes totally overwhelming. It's easy to feel like no one gets it, but you are not alone. We are building a grief support network across campus and HCC counselors can assist you with individual counseling, resources, and referrals to help you.

If you have questions or would like to make an appointment, please call, stop by, or email the Health & Counseling Center at 503.943.7134 or hcc@up.edu to schedule an appointment to discuss your options with a counselor.

Dougy Center

Dougy Center is the Portland-based National Grief Center for Children & Families. They provide resources and peer support groups designed for young adults aged 18-25 and 26-40 who are grieving the loss of a parent, caregiver, sibling, friend, partner, colleague, or family member. Through peer grief support, Dougy Center participants can express themselves and find hope and comfort from people their own age who have had a similar experience. They offer both in-person and virtual options:

  • In-person: Available for those in the Portland metro area, including SW Washington.
  • Virtual: Open to anyone residing in Oregon.

The groups meet every other week in the evenings for 1.5 hours, are open-ended, and provided at no cost. They focus on fostering connection and reducing the isolation common in grief. It is important to note that although therapeutic, Dougy Center does not provide individual counseling or therapy.

For more info and registration, email Dougy Center.

Crisis Support

Grief is hard and can make other things feel overwhelming or even impossible. If you are struggling, or thinking about hurting yourself or others, talking to someone can be one of the best ways to get help.
