We provide confidential services including evaluation and treatment of illnesses and injuries, preventative care, and health education to ALL ACTIVE STUDENTS regardless of their health insurance coverage. Actively enrolled University of Portland students are eligible for healthcare services and treatment.

- Primary and Acute Care
- Laboratory Tests and Orders
- Prescriptions and Refills (Please note the Health & Counseling Center does not prescribe narcotic pain medications, sleep medications, stimulants, or benzodiazepines)
- COVID-19 Antigen and PCR Testing
- Sexually Transmitted Infection/Disease Testing
- Gynecological Services
- Psychiatric Consultations
- Eating Concerns support and assessment
- Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug Prevention Education
- Flu Vaccines
- Travel Consultations
- Referrals to other medical specialists
Labs & Imaging
Most lab work can be collected on site and billed to your health insurance or paid out-of-pocket. The cost for lab work submitted through your insurance is subject to your coverage. Please contact your insurance company prior to lab collection for estimated out-of-pocket costs.
We also accept outside lab orders from your home doctors or specialists. Lab orders from outside providers can be faxed (503.943.7199) or emailed (hcc@up.edu) to the Health & Counseling Center. Once your lab orders have been received, call 503.94.7134 to schedule your lab draw appointment.
We do not have on site imaging services (X-ray, Ultrasound, CT, etc.), but we can order imaging at local hospitals or imaging centers that accept your insurance.
Patient Rights & Confidentiality
The Health & Counseling Center staff value our ability to provide students with a safe and confidential place to seek help. Therefore, we will not disclose student information (including appointment history and medical records) to parents, friends, coaching staff, or faculty unless we have signed release from the student. Due to confidentiality concerns, our providers do not answer medical questions over email. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the front desk at 503.943.7134.
- Be treated with dignity and respect, and receive care that considers your physical and emotional comfort and safety
- Equity of treatment regardless of who you are or how you identify, including your age, race, ethnicity, physical ability or attributes, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, etc.
- Confidentiality*
- Know the name and professional status of the person(s) providing your care
- Have a medical chaperone/advocate present during your appointment
- Pause or stop an appointment or examination at any time, for any reason
- Receive in-house care regardless of ability to pay
- Receive accurate information about your health-related concerns, and ask questions and receive answers in a way that meets your needs and helps you understand
- Participate in choosing a form of treatment, and know the effectiveness, possible side effects and risks of all forms of treatment
- Be involved in developing and implementing your care plan
- Select or change your provider
- Review your medical records with a provider
- Talk with us about your concerns and suggest ways we can improve without that feedback affecting the quality or delivery of your care
- Receive assistance with communication through medical interpreter services
- Informed refusal: the right to refuse care and receive information about the risks and benefits of refusing the care your provider recommends
- Understand a decision to transfer or refer you to off-campus care

Summer Hours
Beginning May 11 through August 1, 2026, the Health & Counseling Center (HCC) will transition to our summer schedule with more limited appointments. However, our phones will continue to be answered Monday through Friday during business hours throughout the summer.
- May & June:
- Appointments will be available 2 to 3 days per week. Students will be scheduled for the next available appointment or connected to care off-campus if needed.
- July:
- Appointments are not available for the month of July. Voicemails and emails will continue to be monitored. If medical care is needed, students will be connected to local care options which can also be found at After-Hours Healthcare.
- August 1:
- Appointment availability will resume.
