Transferring Credit to UP

Advanced Placement (AP):

We will grant credit if you receive a 4 or 5 on the AP exam. Depending on your score and your intended major, awarded credit may waive a class, put you into the next course level, or count as elective credit. The Office of the Registrar has created a table with all transferable AP courses, their credit amount, and equivalent courses at UP.

International Baccalaureate (IB):

We award credit for each individual course if you receive a 5, 6, or 7 on a Higher Level test. The Office of the Registrar has created a table with all transferable IB courses, their credit amount, and equivalent courses at UP.

Dual Enrollment/Running Start (taking college courses while in high school):

Students with dual enrollment should use the first-year applicationUniversity of Portland will evaluate transcripts from regionally accredited universities and colleges for credit transfer. Accepted courses must have grades of C or higher and be taught at the 100-level or above. Courses from international post-secondary institutions will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by International Student Services and the Office of the Registrar.

Review our Block Transfer Credit policy if you plan to complete an associate degree before graduating from high school. If you are taking dual enrollment courses and will not complete an associate degree, check our Course-Level Transfer Credit policy. For questions and guidance, please email your admissions counselor.

College-Level Courses:

Review our Block Transfer Credit policy if you have, or plan to complete, an associate degree before graduating from high school. If you earn college credit during high school or after you graduate and have not completed and associate degree for transfer, check our Course-Level Transfer Credit policy. For questions and guidance, please please email your admissions counselor.

Search the Transfer Equivalency System (TES) to see how credits will transfer in to UP from specific courses you have completed at another college (e.g. through Running Start or concurrent enrollment while enrolled in high school). Please be aware that the equivalencies in TES are determined as we receive students' transcripts; some institutions may only have a few courses listed. The database is not a complete list of all the courses that may be accepted for credit at University of Portland.

These guides and course equivalencies are intended to be used as preparation tools for prospective applicants. These tools are not a substitute for an official evaluation of credit and do not constitute a guarantee of transfer credit award. The information posted here and in the TES database are subject to change at any time.
